* Tall, slender, broadleaf evergreen tree that is native to Australia, where it is used for structural timber
* Displays smooth, gray bark and narrow 7-inch-long yellow-green lemon-scented leaves.
* Sometimes grown as an annual from seed - rapidly reaching 6-8' tall in just one growing season.
* The essential oil of the Corymbia citriodora mainly consists of about 80-90% citronella, used in perfumery, potpourri, and as an insect repellent.
* Aboriginal traditions use very small amounts of oil from the leaves to relieve coughs, colds, sore throats, and as an antibacterial.
* Can grow in a container as an indoor or outdoor ornamental plant.
* Drought-tolerant and does well in poor soil.
* Not suitable for cold, windy climates.
Growing Recommendations:
1. Surface-sow seeds in shallow pots with moistened seed-starting mix. Spritz with water to settle into soil.
2. Place in warm indirect sunlight and keep soil moist. Germination will occur in 7-21 days.
3. Transplant into bigger pots as needed-- Trees will remain under 4 ft if container-bound. Grow indoors near a sunny window, or move outdoors after last frost as a mosquito-repelling patio ornament.
